Julia Nakamura

Postdoctoral Fellow

Julia Nakamura, Ph.D., is a John and Daria Barry postdoctoral fellow with the Human Flourishing Program at Harvard University. She specializes in health psychology and is interested in how a wide range of psychological, behavioral, and social factors shape health and well-being. Her research focuses on the implications of prosocial behaviors (e.g., volunteering, helping behaviors, charitable giving), character strengths and virtues (e.g., love), and religious and spiritual factors (e.g., religious communities) for human flourishing across diverse contexts. Julia is involved in a variety of interdisciplinary collaborations and impact initiatives (e.g., Flourishing and the Church) aimed at understanding and promoting flourishing in individuals and communities. She received her Ph.D. and M.A. in Health Psychology from the University of British Columbia, and her B.S. in Psychobiology from the University of California, Los Angeles.
